3 Differences in Endoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound

3 Differences in Endoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound

Many times people have confusion with different types of ultrasounds.  Because of the lack of knowledge, they believe endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound, which sound very common are the same. These might sound same, but the results these provide and the reasons for which these are conducted are completely different. They believe these two methods of diagnosis are the same, but they are quite different. Below mentioned differences will help you to understand the exact difference between both and find the right hospital for accurate reports:

  • The difference on the basis of meaning: In both tests, a flexible tube is inserted inside. But the difference is a light and camera is connected with the tube in endoscopy at the other hand tube is connected with an ultrasound machine in endoscopic ultrasound.
  • Purpose of test: Endoscopy is used to diagnose the issues in our digestive system. Most doctors recommend going through endoscopy for the patients suffering from constipation, diarrhoea, ulcer, stomach pain, and more. In other cases, endoscopic ultrasound is used to evaluate the bumps in the intestinal wall. Endoscopic ultrasound is also used to test certain types of cancers and blockage of the bowel. Lungs examination has become easy and clearer just because of endoscopic ultrasound.
  • Problem fixing: Doctor may easily fix the problem during the endoscopy procedure, but it completely depends on the type of the problem. Some fixable issue can be treated meanwhile. This is not possible during the endoscopic ultrasound.

Above mentioned three differences are enough to understand that these two tests are not same. Similarities are just in the name which people call wrongly the same but it is actually different.  Operating activities, machines, and methods all are different for both the processes. Risk factors are involved in both tests and also in maximum cases; people don’t even realize that they go through the procedure of any of these tests. So the complaint of pain is usually no, but in some cases, people feel the pain just because of fear in their mind.
